How to Use Car Movers on a Budget

Moving can be quite expensive, and often you'll realize there's so many facets of the moving experience, not to mention the expenses! Perhaps you've been so worried about making sure all your furniture and clothes are moved, that you forgot about your cars! Most people will probably opt to drive their cars themselves when they move. If you're moving to the next neighborhood, city or adjacent state, then that should be no problem. However, if you're moving across the country and you just don't have the time to drive, or perhaps you have more than one vehicle you need to move, then you may need to use a car mover. However, if you're on a tight budget, there may be some ways you can save on your car movers.

Work Directly With The Car Mover
When you shop around for car movers, ask them directly if they are brokers or the actual company. You may find that there are many brokers misrepresenting themselves are car movers, so make sure you're talking to the real thing, so you don't have to pay any excess fees.

Find Out the Exact Weight and Size of Your Car
You'll be charged for weight and size, so make sure you do your research and find out yourself how much your car weighs. Empty your car of other contents that can make it heavier, and you may have to remove non-standard parts, like spoilers or sport equipment racks.

Know What Type of Shipping Vessels
Did you know there's more than one type of shipping vessel, and it's your right as the consumer to choose what type of service you want? Car trailers can be enclosed or open, multi-level and non-stacking, and a host of options in between. Obviously, open trailers which are multi-level (meaning your car could be placed under other vehicles) are the cheapest option, while non-stacking, enclosed and even single-bed transport run higher fees, but will protect your car better. If you have an ordinary car, then the cheaper option should do, but obviously if you're transporting a Porsche or Mercedes, you'll want to make sure your care is safe and sound.

Door to Door or Terminal to Terminal?
The other option for shipping your car is door to door or terminal to terminal. With door to door, you don't have to worry about bringing your car somewhere – the driver will come to your home, drive it to the car shipping depot and drop it off at your new home. This is more convenient, but definitely more expensive. The terminal to terminal option means you'll have to drive you car to a terminal and pick it up at the nearest terminal at your new location (which may or may not be close to your new home either.) This option will save you some cash, but make sure the terminal is close enough to your home that you won't be wasting a lot of gas driving back and forth.
